The Botanical garden
Visit at the botanical garden of Pamplemousses (officially Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Gardens), regarded as the oldest botanical garden of the southern hemisphere, which has born in 1740 around the ‘Chateau de Mon Plaisir’, residence of the governor La Bourdonnais.
The garden was built by Pierre Poivre in 1770. In 1849, an English horticulturist, James Duncan, took again the restoration by planting a great number of palm trees, always visible; Today there is more than 500 species of plants, of which some really rare like the Talipot, which only after 50 years buds but intended to fade after little time.One of the principal attractions is consisted of the giant water lilies, native of the Amazon: two days successive, its flower is revealed late in the afternoon until the following mid morning. The flower with a delicious perfume is white on the first day but pink on the following day.
In the garden we also find many specimens of golden bamboo, trees of gum, poisonous plants, a religious ficus of 200 years and, in honour of the Christians, a tree with sheets in the shape of cross, all this and other more will wait for you during your guided visit in the garden.
Port Louis
After the garden, get ready for a visit at Port Louis, capital and principal city of Mauritius. The city is also an open port on Indian Ocean and the largest city of the country. Port Louis is regarded as one of the most important money markets of sub-Saharan Africa, with Johannesburg. Then we will visit Caudan Water Front which accommodates a shopping centre, art galleries, casino'. After, we will leave to the market of Port Louis, which spreads out the Mauritian culture, where you will find tropical fruits, plants, spices, mix of colours and perfumes and at very incredible prices.
